2012 – Busy start to the year

A very busy start to the year has seen a variety of Topographical Surveys carried out both locally and nationally. We have recently undertaken a project for the Forestry commission to carry out work on our doorstep in the Forest of Dean as well as by Gloucestershire Highways to survey large parts of Cinderford. Several private commissions have also been secured which has meant site visits to farms / building plots and back gardens. A site team has also spent a week avoiding traffic on the M5 Junction 6 roundabout in Worcester and if that wasn’t busy enough they then moved on to survey the A449 between Hartlebury and Ombersley.

November – River Wye Channel Survey Complete

River Wye flood model channel survey through Herefordshire complete, sections undertaken beneath the impressive Yat Rock. Now on to the finish line at The Saracens Head at Symonds Yat, Hard to concentrate on the survey work with the smell of cooked meals and the temptation of a crisp pint of Cider within our grasp!!

We’ve also had a site team carrying out survey work in Swindon along Great Western Way. This involved several roundabout systems along a busy stretch of road. Several smaller scale surveys were also undertaken in and around The Forest of Dean and Cheltenham. These ranged from Private gardens for planning applications and Land Registry work to the relocation of a bus shelter and general road improvement schemes.

August – River Wye Channel Survey Begins

From the busy streets of Bristol, to the beautiful countryside in Herefordshire, this month saw work begin on the River Wye scheme, a project commissioned by the Environment Agency to determine topographic data as part of a floodplain mapping study.

Cross sections are required every 250m along several stretches of the watercourse between Hay on Wye in West Herefordshire and Symonds Yat. The site teams began at the upstream extents and worked their way through the picturesque landscape passing through the villages of Clifford and Whitney on Wye. It makes a change having to look out for canoeists rather than cars and buses! The next stage of the study will see the surveyors head towards and into Hereford.

To be continued…
